Kazi Ahmed Asif Fuad
I’m Kazi Ahmed Asif Fuad (Asif, for short), a PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Oregon State University, supervised by Professor Lizhong Chen. My research lives in two places I enjoy about equally: building with large language models, and making deep learning run more efficiently in hardware. On the language side I’ve worked on systems for simultaneous translation and for technical writing; on the hardware side I study how AI models and the accelerators they run on can be made faster and leaner. I’m also an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), currently on study leave to finish the PhD.
The route here was a winding one. I did a triple degree Erasmus+ Mundus master’s in Image Processing and Computer Vision across Bordeaux, Madrid, and Budapest, spent a summer at CERN getting graph neural networks to run on FPGAs, and completed my BSc and MSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering back home in Dhaka, finishing my master’s Summa Cum Laude. If there’s a common thread, it’s a stubborn curiosity about how AI systems work under the hood, and about building the pieces that make them run better.
